Watching the times
Like Daniel, may we pray for the fulfilment of God’s purpose.
Of whom speaketh the prophet?
Even the most ill-equipped among us are capable of Bible study of the best sort; consisting, quite simply, of asking questions.
The kingdom of God
“The saints of the Most High will take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever”, never receding from their position, nor leaving it to be possessed by others.
Counted worthy to suffer
Peter failed his first trial; but afterwards, he went both to prison and to death for Christ’s sake, and was of those who “rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name”.
The hand of God
God is displeased with the wickedness of men now as He was then. He is not an indifferent spectator of the ways of nations, though He would appear so in this time of long-kept silence.
He doeth according to His will
The saints are called to a higher work in all respects. Even now it is highest work to preach the Gospel of the future kingdom.
Our Lord will come back
As throughout their troubled lives the apostles looked beyond to the final glory, so we echo their words, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus”.
God rules
“God ruleth in the kingdom of men and giveth it to whomsoever He will” – and is guiding them to a determined end.
The King of the Jews
Jesus bore the cross for himself, that others might partake of the exaltation which is his because of obedience unto death.
The prayer of Jesus
“Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”.
